Style: Black Dress

We had a mini adventure out to do some test shots somewhere. May have to reconsider because the place has knee high prickly plants and someone is bound to get splinters (me). You can see it in the first picture. Such a pain :|

New dress bought from GoJane!

I did one want one in red but I'm cheap and such a sucker for black dresses. Love it because it's a good fit ~but~ the belt that was included looks like it's been used and will most likely snap.

Isn't this so cute and tiny? I also got the rose studs from above Craft'n Bettie!

I may have went crazy on some good sales this month. I'm waiting for a nice sunny weekend to take pictures of the dress I bought :D Still have some packages to get here then I'm done!

F21 had free shipping yesterday so LOVED getting 8 things for $20!

What have you splurged on lately?

Q: Should I keep these?

The color was not expected. I suppose my computer screen was 'off' or something but the picture online didn't look grey or this light either.

I'm normally for black boots and have never gone towards brown or grey before. My first Blowfish Shoes purchase, I strayed and went with dark brown Hanaki's (LOVE)

Keep or Exchange?

Week of FOTD's

I have always loved makeup~ Such a small collection and not enough time to experiment, practice or improve. I am not so amazing with blending yet or understanding what shape is good for my eye.

Since I'll be doing more photo shoots in the near future, some makeup experience will be me good!

So far I'm using Primer Potion and concealer to get the colors to pop more. It looks alright with flash but it'll be nice to have an intense color for in the real world wear!

I heard of good thing about NYX's jumbo eye pencil ~milk. It's been a few years though so is there something better/still cheap?

Hair Adventures

Most questions directed at me are hair related.  I actually received a message that if I continue to dye my hair, it will stop growing.  I'm tired of hearing the "I'll go bald"  because it's not true. My hair is also not "fried".

You should give your hair a break, baby it and give it a trim every 6 months or so.  Split ends will continue to split up higher. I've personally experienced this in my past which is why I cut my hair super short. If your hair is in good condition then I don't see regular trims  necessary.. just imo!

loreal hicolor magenta, loreal hicolor red, raw ruby red
My hair journey to red.

This is Loreal Hicolor Hilift in Magenta and Red. These dyes are made to actually work on virgin dark hair but it has to be completely virgin not this: "My color has faded! It's been a couple of months."  (Trust me, I've tried!  Strip yo color out with a color remover first).

I bleached my whole head to a blonde and waited a few days before putting dye on it since you use a developer with these.  I mixed 30 volume in with the Hicolor dye and left it on for around half an hour.

I recommend using Raw's Ruby Red afterwards for touch ups and only use the Loreal for doing your roots :) RAW dyes are veggie and won't damage your hair.  Usually you can get away with a second dye job using Loreal just to possibly get a brighter result but it shouldn't be used to touch up your color.

SFX Pimpin Purple

This color photographs pink in direct sunlight. :) I mixed in a bunch of conditioner to dilute it since it was extremely dark.  The purple didn't last too long for me. Maybe a month at that.

faded pimpin purple special effects
Pimpin Purple fades to this hot pink.  If you want to be two colors with little hassle then use this dye and shampoo it out when you want to go pink!

Manic Panic After Midnight

This is such a pretty color over the purple.  I was going for a gradient effect.

raw deep purple
RAW Deep Purple

I was this purple for about a year. My longest color ever!  I've only had to dye my hair 2 times throughout the WHOLE time. Want to know how? Go read here

Manic Panic Voodoo Blue

This was my first time going this shade of blue and I LOVED it. It's my favorite from Manic Panic!  Read the review here

Manic Panic Rockabilly

I adored this color so much. It was SO beautiful but the overall experience was a huge pain in the butt.

Punky Atlantic Blue
It was a good dupe of Rockabilly because it didn't stain and go everywhere but it faded EXTREMELY fast as well. :(

SFX Blue Velvet
This is my most recent blue as of 2013! It's  a gorgeous dark color.

I don't bleach every time I want to change colors or touch up color. I had to bleach my red out to get to a pinky base for the purple to cover. I usually just try to shampoo my color out the best that I can and despoit a new color on top. This could give you different color. If you want the exact color, you'll need a blonde base! Ultra Violet probably could have been a much more intense color if I didn't put it on top of my faded hot pink color.

My favorite dyes are Loreal and RAW. Those are long lasting for me personally and yes, they bleed/stain everywhere for the first week or two. Black pillow cases are absolutely necessary.

Here's a photo of my hair when I first dyed it red and one year later as purple.

Hair that doesn't seem to grow is due to breakage at the ends, genetics or etc. Biotin can also help along with Mane N Tail to thicken hair.

Cute Finds {animal scarves}

I'm in love with these animal scarves. I made a crocheted kitty one before but these knit scarves are so much cuter ;.; Of course I want the bunnies and foxes.

Visit Cateaclysmic Crafts for more goodies! ♥

Has anyone made knit amigurumi before?

It's not something I see often so I can imagine how complicated it is.

Amigurumi Toast & Squids

This was in a desperate need of a revamp, here we go.

My small collection of the new squids! A few modifications... I like the top heavy ones the most. It's probably time to move on to designing that cuttlefish next!

Bow Headband Pattern

It's a little late! D: I'm going to make more of these. I don't wear headbands often and these keep the beast hair out of the face. Knit ones soon? My first attempt awhile back was this black one!

Hook I.
Chain 14.

Color one:
1. Skip first chain, sc across.
2. Ch 1. Skip first sc, sc across & into side.
Repeat 24x

Color two: The bow!
Ch 1. Skip first sc, sc across & into side.

Repeat 22x

Color one:
Ch 1. Skip first sc, sc across & into side.
Repeat 24x or your length.

Try it on as you go and make sure there's no overlapping. Sl st together!

Use the second color and wrap it around in the middle to create the bow. Cut and secure! Or you can bunch up the section & sew it.

I've used worsted and bulky types.
H to N hook. (depending on yarn type)
You can substitute double crochet with half double crochet if you like.

  • Chain 3.
  • 2 dc into the last chain. Ch 1, 3 dc (into last chain), ch 3. Turn.

Row 2:
  • 2 double crochet in the first st.
  • Chain 1. '3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc' in the ch 1 space (hole) *ch 1, 2 dc in last st.
  • Chain 3, turn.

Row 3:
  • 2 double crochet in the first st.
  • Chain 1. 3 dc in ch 1 space. Chain 1. '3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc' in the [hole].
  • Chain 1. 3 dc in ch 1 space.
  • Chain 1, 3 dc in last st. Chain 3, turn.

Repeat row 3 to get it as large as you would like.

I see this in my head better than explaining. I wouldn't deem this a beginner project! I put up bullet points to separate it into pieces.

How I see this:

The Chain 3 before Row 3 acts as the third double crochet.
  • BEGIN ROW 3:   3 dc in each ch-space (hole) until you reach the middle point.
  • Middle point: '3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc'

-Go back down the other side with 3 dc in each ch 1 space.

-While chaining one in between :)

You can attach yarn to make a double crochet rectangle to wrap or tie around yourself.
Sew on a large enough button and wear it like so.
I left tails on both sides to loosely tie it :)

I do have variations of this scarf that I'll be writing up shortly.

This is a basic pattern of this watermelon scarf. That one has a lace-esque edging and two rectangles on each side to tie/wrap around.
